Go Fug Yourself comment

Ok, I check the Go Fug Yourself blog daily. It is one of those celebrity obsessed sites out there. However, what they do is find pictures of YOUR beloved celebrities in ridiculous outfits or just looking like shit in general. They proceed to talk shit about said celebrities.

So why am I telling you this? Because the other day they had a post about Paris Hilton. For those of you who are unfamiliar with her, she also has been referred to as The Richest 10 Cent Whore in the world. I think my former roommate Stuart would refer to her as a "no talent ass-clown" in reference to her acting abilities. You know you're really talented when your best work is still the porno you did at 19. I won't see the house of wax. I won't see anything else she's done. The only reason she keeps getting roles is because she is
1. rich
2. a self-promoting whore
I wonder when she will finally get the tatoo on her lower stomach that says "WILL NOT OPEN UNLESS YOUR NET WORTH IS AT LEAST 75% OF MINE" with an arrow pointing downward.

Enough with my Paris rant. Check out the Go Fug Yourself bit on her at the post-Oscar party. They did a great job busting on her. It put a smile on my face.

Ok, I'm going to grab a bite to eat before I shower and get dressed for the Phoenix Club's party tonight. It is going to be badass. I hope they have the A/C on though because I've been sweating all damn day and if I'm wearing this suit and it is still hot, I'm going to be pissed. But there will be plenty of hot honeys there tonight. So I hope you get laid.

g'night baby

Last Night's Happy Hour

Well, I really need to start checking the local sports schedules when I pick my dates and places for the Happy Hours. Why? Because last night the Tigers played in the C-USA tourney at the FedEx Forum at the same time we had the Happy Hour. AND after yesterday's horrible rain storm during the day, everyone was gun shy. Take all this into consideration and we still had close to 50 people show up (most early before going to the game).
I got to meet a few new folks and finally remember some names. I hate that: people I meet at the most random times and places and can't ever remember their names. I won't say who they are, but I now DO KNOW their names. But we had our usual suspects and a few others. Kat showed up along with her friends. I ducked out after 3 beers because I hadn't eaten and I needed to go to bed early (which still didn't happen). I've been burning the candle at both ends lately and it's starting to catch up with me.

Ok here is a pic from last night. Queen Laura (very center) took a great pic of some of the guys (including me). I'll post that when I get it.

How you durrin?

For Lent I thought long and hard about what I could give up or do. I finally settled on going to the gym at least 4 days a week. Doesn’t sound like something tough? Well it’s tougher than you think. I have other things going on:
I’m moving this month.
My social calendar is almost full all month long.

I usually find myself skipping out on gym time during the rest of the year when my calendar is full of other promises and obligations. But now I can’t because I made a pact with God that I would do this. Why did I choose this instead of giving something up? Because I can give anything up. That’s not a problem. I did alcohol one year. Not a big deal. I’ve given up caffeine drinks anyway. But this takes dedication and determination. Plus whenever I work out I am in my own little world (even though there are others around). I can think without any problems or distractions. It’s almost as good as standing in the shower contemplating things (at the current apt, the hot water runs out in 10 minutes so I can’t do much thinking there). So I can use this for personal reflection time as well as self-improvement.

So last night was a clusterf*ck. I ended up staying at the office until 6. I went to the gym to run. Afterwards I came home to shower. I got stuck on a few phone calls and ate a little dinner. Then I grabbed my beer fridge and bar along with their contents and moved all that to the new house (along with a little bit of hunting stuff). After that I drove around delivering Mardi Gras tickets. I didn’t get home to relax until about 10:45 (I usually need about an hour or two each day to really wind down before going to sleep).

But I’ve been very disciplined despite this. I’ve been eating well on top of exercising. But today I relapsed. My lunch consisted of a steak sandwich with pretzel sticks and Jello. I knew that wasn’t enough, so I ran to the Exxon at 3rd and Mallory before I ate to pick up a bag of chips or something to go with it. Bad idea. I grabbed a king size bag of Skittles, a bag of honey roasted peanuts, some beef jerky, and a 3 Musketeers bar. No I haven’t eaten it all. But after the steak sandwich, a 3 Musketeers bar, some skittles, and beef jerky stick (Jack Links Rocks!!!), I feel, well, “bleh”. That’s the only way to describe it. Oh well. I will still go work out.

So what’s the moral of the story? Junk food makes you feel like SHIT! Leave it alone and eat healthy. Yes, every once in a while have a little as a reward or something, but other than that leave it alone.

As far as tonight goes, I’m going to the bank and then the gym IMMEDIATELY after work. I’ll shower and probably get to the Happy Hour about 7 as usual. Is it bad if the chairman never shows up on time to his own event? Well, I guess it’s better that I stick with tradition.

BTW the Raiford’s Cadillac drove by while I was at the Exxon. Foreshadowing for the weekend? Or tonight?
Doubtful. Very doubtful.

Playin' Hookey

Guess what? I'm leaving early today. I've got plans for the evening so I'm cutting out about 15 minutes early so I can shower, wash the truck, etc., before hand.

Why am I telling you this?
1. because I won't be able to post anything later reminding you about the Ptolemy Happy Hour this Thursday at the Flying Saucer DOWNTOWN at 6.
2. to gloat. haha

How much more do you hate me now?

My Favorite Unique Blog

Ok, this is my favorite blog that covers a very unique subject: Terrains of the Heart by Four D Blues. I don't know who this is or even how I stumbled upon it, but it has quickly become one of my favorite non-personal blogs.

For those of you who don't know what this blog covers, allow me to explain. This person goes around Mississippi with a camera and takes pictures of the scenery or specific locations in relation to the history of the blues in Mississippi. With each post there is a song that can relate to the picture or the specific location in the picture. This covers two topics near and dear to my heart: Mississippi and the blues. How are these important to me? Each are unique parts of my life.

My mother's side of the family is from Mississippi. I went to Ole Miss. I grew up going to spend time with family in the Batesville area. I have driven many times through the Delta and the hills. I have been to the swamps and the pine forest. It is a beautiful state when you aren't just blazing through it down I-55 or on your way to Tunica. I can get lost in the backroads and all my concerns and stress will just melt away. There is nothing like driving down a dirt road with the windows down in the spring. Just puts a smile on your face.

The blues is where every song I have ever loved came from (in my opinion). Rock came from the blues. Country came from the same roots as the blues when white people started playing it. Rap/Hip Hop came from RnB and Soul. They were just the destination that the natural progression of the blues went to. Everyone tried to play the blues and make it their own style (look at Led Zeppelin) and that is where the newer genres of music came from. Again, all these are my opinions. And who can't love the blues? Sometimes you need it just so you can shed a tear. Go to a bar on Beale St (not a dance club) with a live band and tell me if almost every song they play isn't derived from the blues, if not the blues itself. Obviously music is an important part of my life. If I'm not listening to music while I'm doing something, I am humming a tune or signing a song a capella. Hell, I include a list of songs I'm listening to just to inspire people to find things that aren't just on the radio or in the dance club. There is a lot of great music that came out years ago that we don't know because we grew up plugged into MTV (which now sucks donkey balls!) Sorry for that rant.

So this blog really hit home for me. I check it several times a week just to see what wonderful new places "Four D Blues" has put up and what songs he/she has covered on it. There are a lot of just beautiful shots. I hope you enjoy it like I do.

Now get down,

Philip

Weekend Recap

So how was your weekend? Mine was fine.

Friday night, I was going to head to the walrus show at Dan McGuinness in East Memphis. That didn't happen. I got a call from Gordo. He was at Jennie & Walker's house with a bunch of friends. We went there and I was about 12 beers behind, which is always a fun state to be in. Why? Because everyone else acts like a fool and you'll be the one person who'll definitely remember it.

Saturday, I ran to the gym for a little while. Then I came home, worked around the apt., and took a shower. After getting dressed, I ran to my grandmother's house for dinner. Her sister-in-law was in town with one of her sons and his wife. We had a nice time. She has a tamale casserole, a baked ham, and some BBQ. Oh yeah, we also had her great green jello. This is a family treat that we get maybe 5 times a year: Xmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, Dad's Birthday, and if family visits. It is green jello with cherries in it and some type of marshmellow topping. It is BADASS!!!
Ok, so I was there for about 4 hours, then I left and called Mark & Leanne. They were at Alex's Tavern watching the Tigers/Houston game & the Duke/UNC game with Tim & Mary (yea I was the 5th wheel). I went there to hang out and have a beer or two. I forgot that Alex's didn't take plastic. So they let me have a few beers on their tab. I came home after that and got up this morning about 9:30.

I'm resting up for this week. Ptolemy Happy Hour is this Thursday. I'll post the flyer later this week. Then the Mardi Gras party is Saturday. I'll also be moving bit by bit all week long.

I'm getting off this thang. Take it sleazy folks.

A Real World?

Ok, I caught bits of the premiere of the new season of the Real World. I remember year (I mean mid to late 90s) when I was stoked about the new seasons of the Real World. It seems like now they are going for individuals who fit certain stereotypes.

I do like how the frat douche guy gets one of the girl's bag out of the car and something starts humming. What does this guy automatically think it is? A friggin vibrator. And later he comes down with a friggin blowup doll. When I said later, that was 2 minutes later in tv time.
This guy really annoys me. He is telling the bullimic blonde that she needs another 10-15 pounds. He obviously doesn't know she's bullimic yet. But other than that feux pas (spelling?), he just doesn't shut the hell up. Doesn't he know that is a bad thing to keep talking all the time and talking over other people? It's rude. Oh well, he'll learn one day. Oh yeah, he used dawn as a dishwasher detergent. This guy is an f'ing 'tard.

Ok, onto the other people, you've got a Russian chick. She's hot. Although she does fit the typical Russian stereotype (according to the gay guy, more on him in a minute): everything is big - big hair, big jewelry, big boobs, etc.

You have the bi-racial girl from California who is going to go to law school. Anyone else noticed how they would not shut up about her being bi-racial.

Of course you have the bottle blonde from Connecticut who is bullimic. Ok, she obviously won't eat and makes it a big deal in front of everyone but really doesn't want to make it known. WTF? She talks about how she would be depressed, but she doesn't want anyone to know about it. And if she keeps getting upset everytime she drinks, this is going to get really old. She needs to see a shrink. Here is Dr. Philip's prescription for her:
Eat a whole pizza, see a shrink, don't puke. Quick translation: GET SOME FUCKING HELP! Otherwise you'll be miserable for the rest of your life. If you are unhappy now and don't do anything to change that, you will never be able to be happy in a relationship with someone. You have to love yourself before you can honestly give someone your love.

Then you have the Puerto Rican guy who is a kinda do-it-yourself entreprenuer (spelling?). I mean while he was in college he started reading real estate books and bought his own house...IN COLLEGE. That's pretty cool for a guy who came from "dirt poor" beginnings as he said.
You have the guy from Seattle named Zach. He seems really cool and down to earth. He and the Puerto Rican guy seem like they are the only sane ones to me.

And we have the gay bigot. Ok, what do you call a gay bigot? An unsensitive fag? A queer who finds all your faults? He asks the guy from Seattle (who he says is Jewish. I don't know bout that) what he does. Dude from Seattle says I work in my family's jewelry business. The gay bigot says "oh, don't tell svetlana!" I think that is obviously the Russian girl. I wonder how many episodes until they confront him about talking about people behind their backs. He seems like the gossip queen of the group who can shut the F up (no pun intended). And he keeps saying that Svetlana is "Russian Mafia". Ok, I'm not going to keep bashing this dude. He does enough of that for all of us.

I don't know if I'll keep watching this season. Last season sucked so damn much that I didn't even make it halfway. They were in one of the best cities in the US (Austin) and couldn't do anything interesting. Why won't MTV return to the days of getting one nut (i.e. Puck) and make the rest normal people. And why do they all have to be so damn young. Maybe I was in my early/mid teens, but in San Francisco they seemed so old. Like mid to late 20s. Now these kids are like babies!

Anyway, I'm gonna go pack clothes and stuff. Hopefully I'll be able to meet up with Simon and get my key to the new pad today. I'll be able to move while he's out going to the park or whatever he's doing today.

Adios kids.

Quick Calendar Items

Ok, here's the upcoming social calendar.

I just heard about this after work. Walrus is playing tomorrow night (Friday night) at the Dan McGuinness in East Memphis. Always a good show. But I have to ask, are their venues getting smaller? I mean every time I've seen them play somewhere, it's been Newby's or at a private party. Now they're at Dan McGuinness. I've been there before. Is there even room for a friggin band? There wasn't when it was Patrick's. Oh well. I don't know if I'll make it. I'm going to pack up boxes and move all weekend.

Thursday Next Week: the Grand Krewe of Ptolemy's March Happy Hour at the Flying Saucer downtown. Will be fun. I've heard a lot of buzz about this. Speaking of buzz...

Saturday Next Week: THE PHOENIX CLUB'S ANNUAL MARDI GRAS PARTY (benefitting the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis). Be there or else. If you've never been, you don't know what you're missing. If you have been and yet you actually are considering missing it, you are officially old and are no longer allowed to be referred to as "cool". There is no debate.

Ok, I'm going to hit the hay now. I'm going to get up early and get some work done before the day begins.

G'night kids.

Quick Post

Ok, I know I promised a review of last night's episode of Lost but here I sit over 15 hours later and I am still blown away. How do you review that? I'll leave the full review up to the folks at the Entertainment Weekly's TV watch (although we all know how wrong the folks at EW are until after the world falls in love with a show).

Quick comment: the actress who plays Claire has the most beautiful blue eyes. Anyone else notice the Mother with the Lost baby (i.e. the Frenchwoman, Rousseau) and the Mother who still has her baby (i.e. Claire) both have beautiful but piercing blue eyes. I don't know if that is coincedence or not, but man when they were both looking around the medical "hatch" with so much intensity in each of their eyes, it just jumped out at me.

I'll try to go more into things later because my head is still swimming with thoughts about the show. I'll also post a quick schedule about next week's social calendar. There are several items that are NOT TO BE MISSED.

Grey's & Who is yo Mama Post

I'm going to cover both Grey's Anatomy & How I Met Your Mother in this post. Then I'll watch Lost and go to bed (don't you love Tivo/DVR?). I'll post my Lost thoughts later after I find them.
Ok, first How I Met Your Mother:

Great episode. It looks like Ted has actually found a girl that will put up with his stupidity and his past obsession with Robyn. Now, the question remains, will she put up with his current obsession with Robyn. Hmm...only time will tell.

And what did you think of the whole most embarassing stories plot lines? You kinda knew Ted's would involve his obsession. Now Marshall & Lilly's story of having sex while Marshall's mom was still on the phone was funny as hell. I don't remember what Robyn's was, so it couldn't have been that great. And Barney's story was, well, BAD-F'ING-ASS!!! Barney goes from the lovey dovey hippie who is saving himself for one woman for marriage. She leaves him for a dude in a suit and that leads us to his story arc, i.e. how he went from coffeehouse/hippie/pussy Barney to Suit-Up!/yuppie/tail-chasing Barney. (for those of you upset with the "p"-word in the previous sentence, change it to "girlie-man" or something like that. I'm not PC) Barney rocks. Everytime you think he may have some serious depth with a sensitive layer, you realize that it was destroyed years ago by some cheating hippie chick.

Ok, onto Grey's Anatomy (very quick recap):
I thought it was a good episode. I'm glad to see George finally had his heart broken by Meredith so he can move on. I mean come on, did anyone really think they would get along and live happily ever after? (I really hope I didn't conflict with what I said in a previous post from last week). Quick props:
- Good job for that one doctor to give her number to the broken-hearted George.
- Great job to the writers for not showing us what happened between Meredith & George in the bedroom. We got to watch what happened in the hospital before the bedroom (reverse chronological).
- Good job to Burke for 1. giving George a place to crash for now & 2. pushing Christina's comfort zone into a smaller and smaller space. Last week she gave up her safety net (her own apartment). This week she has to share her place with a down & out coworker who she obviously gets along with but, had they never been coworkers, she wouldn't be friends with. She seems kinda like a social climber to me. Don't you think so? I mean you can tell she is really competitive and all, but the more I think about her character, I feel that if I knew her socially, she would use me and everyone I knew to gain in the social world.

Side question: where does a social climber head? Everyone I have ever known will try to use you to meet new people and when they are done with you or the other people, they seem to make it a point to lose touch. So will they ever reach their goal? I mean if they are using people to meet new people, how are they supposed to "move up" if they keep pissing off everyone they meet? Hmm...

- ok back to it (sorry) Great job to the writers for making Izzie & Christina side with George, even though they (and we at that point) didn't really know exactly what happened in the bedroom. But I thought that was realistic. And how about dude's comment to Meredith: "When you get drunk, you sleep with inappropriate men. That's what you do." I can't ever remember his name, he's the guy Izzie is/was sleeping with although now the patient with the bad coronary heart and the good character heart is back. And how is that for a monkeyed up metaphor? He has a great emotional heart, but his physical heart is weak and needs to be replaced. Man that is something that makes you think. I know it may be a simple little idea, but it makes you wonder, if someone is full of love and positive emotions, will that put any type of strain on his or her physcial heart. Or is the strength of his emotional heart what is keeping his weak physical heart pumping until they get a donor heart? Hmm...

Ok, I'm going to run and watch Lost.

Quick update for the weekend: I have no plans yet. Anything fun going on? Remember I'm not one of those hipsters so I don't know if I'd fit into a DJ show or anything like that. Or should I lay low this weekend and save my money? Or will I just wait until something sporadic goes down. Or will I be lame and pack my apartment and move? Hmm...

My New Crack Habit

Ok, I have a new addiction. I finally decided to try it and now I can't stop.

I joined MySpace.

The bad news is I just keep checking it all the time. I thought blogging was addictive, but this is worse.

The good news is I've found friends from college that I haven't seen in a long time. It's really cool to hook up with old friends on that.

One downside is it won't let me automatically link to this blog. Or at least I haven't figured out how yet. Hey I hated programming in college so I doubt I'll figure it out unless someone (hint hint) shows me how. Anywho, it is a really fun thing. I'm sure it'll get old in about a week or two.

R.I.P. Don Knotts

Ladies and gentlemen,
Bow your heads and give observance to a moment of silence for a great American actor and comedian. He made you laugh many times in your life I know. Don Knotts passed away this weekend. No more Barney Fife.
See ya, Barn.

Hungover

Hey Kiddies!
I don't know about yall, but I am still hungover. I did the coronation thing, then met a ton of folks from the party at the Blue Monkey. Too many shots and too many red bull & vodka's. Ouch. Soooo after that, I head out and go to Destiny Diner to get a BBQ pizza. I call as I'm leaving the Monkey and they say it'll be 25 minutes. I get my pizza and run home. Chow down and go to bed about 4AM. And now I am hungover.

I'll post my pics Monday. My camera cord is at the office. I got a lot of great ones.

By the way, congratulations are in order for Queen Laura of the house of Russell and King Trip of the house of Spear. I can't remember all the duchesses names right now. But I'll post the pics of them on Monday. So congrats all.

Anyone else up yet?

Last night I decided to take the hand that was dealt and stay in. I left work at 7 and came home. Yes, you read that, "I left work at 7" was what I said. I was working on invoices. And I was on and off the phone all the time. So what did I do when I got home? Fixed dinner, watch Austin Powers on TV (not as funny as on DVD, more on the A.P. on Tv thing in a minute), and fell asleep in the recliner. Yea, apparently I became a grandfather last night. No I don't have any kids or grandkids, I just zonked out after a glass of milk, a sandwich, and a few chips with Mama's Mexican Layer Dip. Not sure what did it, but I was out like a light. After I slept for about an hour or two, I woke up and said hmm, I could wake up and be up all night OR I can go to bed now and get a good night's sleep since I haven't had more than 6 hours one night this week. What would you do? Went to bed.

I know, it's boring. But I've had an eventful day today. Let's see, I...ate two bowls of Wheaties...messed around on the internet...went to the gym. Wow, what a waste of a day. Oh well, I had a big night Thursday at Mom and Dad's in G'Town and I'll have a huge friggin night tonight. You have to have boring nights in there or else you start to run down your engines. I find that I do more things on the weeknights lately than on the weekends. Don't know why. I'm sure the attack of WHITE DEATH 2006 PARTS 1 & DEUX had something to do with it. Oh well, I'll make up for it tonight at the
GRAND KREWE OF PTOLEMY'S 2006 CORONATION BALL at the UClub. Doors open at 8, with the presentation at 9.

Was that a good plug? I thought so. Well I'm charging my digital camera right now for plenty o' pics. I'll post the best on here.

What are we doing late night? Well probably going to the Monkey as we usually end up there after Ptolemy stuff. Of course we may all be too tipsy to go to a bar. Or we may go to Raiford's. Wait, they may go to Raifords. The only way I go there anymore is if I'm chasing. Or someone else is driving, paying my way in, and putting up with my Cootie Brown ass.

Anyways, who all will be there tonight? Don't know about bloggers other than Kat, maybe Joseph Koury. That's all I know of. I know he used to be a member or at least shows up to the parties. There's no telling. Oh yea, Mom and Dad will be there.

OH YEA! The Austin Powers thing. Ok, as I was watching Austin Powers 2 (Spy Who Shagged Me) those damn commercials came up so I started flipping channels and what did I find Austin Powers (International Man Of Mystery) on another channel. Either Lorne Michaels or Mike Myers made a deal with a red scaley guy with a tale who lives in eternal damnation. I'm not accusing anyone, I'm just saying that someone is getting some serious royalties outta this deal.

It's kinda funny to go back and look at these kinda movies and see who got bit parts and have now become more familiar faces to me. There's the tall guy from MadTV that you always catch in reruns on Comedy Central. And then of course the man who we now call Mr. Everywhere, Will Ferrell, had the Mustafa (sp?) part in 1 & 2. Those were the only two I really noticed before I fell asleep. I also did notice how bad Heather Graham's acting was in 2 (and the TV dorks couldn't figure out why they should have watched Emily's Reasons before giving it the greenlight). Ok, yea she is hot and yea she was actually good in Swingers and yea she got naked and freaky in Boogie Nights WITH roller skates on, but other than that what does she have going for her?

By the way, if anyone in Midtown is looking for some late-night sustenance, I HIGHLY recommend Destiny Diner at Printer's Alley. The BBQ pizza is really good (even better when you've had a few too many). The wings aren't that great though. The bones always break when I'm eating them. And everytime I go I always meet interesting crazy folks. Oh yea, if for some odd chance that couple from back in early January is reading this blog, sorry. I was very, very drunk (my roommate was driving) and I didn't realize that I said what I said outloud until after it was over. For those of you who are in the dark, good. I'm not reliving all my embarassments on the friggin internet.

Remember, Caffeine is the Debil, Bobby Buche!

Songs on the Playlist (random mix of stuff downloaded recently):
Slaughter - Up All Night
U2 - Angle of Harlem
Nick Glider - Hot Child In The City (this song sucks, delete)
Bob Dylan - All Along The Watchtower (much better)
Matisyahu - King Without a Crown (the rapping reggae Hasydic Jew, CRAZINESS!)
John Hiatt - Paper Thin
Michael Andrews feat Gary Jules - Mad World
Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine
Whitesnake - Slow and Easy (no Tawny Kataen, sorry, even I wouldn't put up with her psycho ass. Dude, she beat her husband who was a PROFESSIONAL BASEBALL PLAYER. Bitch can whoop some ass!)

M.I.L.F.

Ok, here is the MILF of the month. Heidi Klum.

This isn't going to be a regular thing, but the other day I was flipping channels and landed on a special on the SI Swimsuit issue. I watched for a second and kept on (I'm not 14; it doesn't keep my attention that much anymore. Sorry). I happened back by after a few minutes and what happened? They were discussing how Heidi Klum was going to have a whole section to herself in an omage to the pinup models of the '40s and '50s...in the painted on outfits! So I found myself unable to keep flipping channels at that point.

I know some of you probably wanted to read some sort of insight into the Memphis social scene or read something philosophical or whatever. Sorry. This can't be passed up. Enjoy.

We will return to our regularly scheduled programming next time.

Congrats to the New Mama

My friend Mandy is a new mommy. And she never had to get knocked up. Check out her baby, Gibson. It's some kind of Aussie dog. I can't remember the type, but he is real cute.
Congrats!
